Research Field & Rectorial Activity
Description of research work:
The research work includes the following directions: distributed parameter systems, system
theory, control system design, logic and digital systems, control system optimization and robot
control systems. The research field comprising the largest number of results refers to distributed
parameter systems. All this papers bring forward important theoretical contributions but, at the
same time they are characterized by a marked practical character and applied in chemical, thermal,
hydrodynamic and pneumatic systems. Other results have been appiled in numerical simulation, electronic
and integrated circuits, digital control via microprocessors, optimal control of mechanic arms in
industrial robots - allowing that new methods of synthesis be obtained from the adaptive and learning
systems. An important part of the papers is focused on a special class robots, the tentacle robots,
with infinite number of degrees-of-freedom. In this field I have created three models: TEROB 01;
TEROB 02 and TEROB 03 (TEntacle ROBot), and I have obtained very important results concerning the
control of these robots by using the multimicroprocessor systems.
Accoplinshements of the activity as Rector:
I have encreased the number of Faculties from 7 (1989) up to 4 (1995) and
consequently the number of specialisations for each Faculty (the average: from 2 to 6 per each, sometimes
creating new diplomas, in fields like pshycology, economics, phylosophy, orthodox theology, arts, and others).
I have a major contribution in the reform of higher education and the law of education
being one of the members of the national boards for elaborating this restructuration.
I have created the short-cycle higher education (Colleges) after the American model.
I have included the University of Craiova in the E.U. programmes for higher education.
I have aworded the academic title of Doctor Honoris Causa for the most
outstanding personalities in the academic and research fields from all over the world.
