WASHINGTON (NWS) -- Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen
has ordered USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) to
the Arabian Gulf. Pentagon spokesman Kenneth Bacon made the announcement July 6. Theodore
Roosevelt will be passing through the Suez Canal later in the week and is scheduled
to remain in the Arabian Gulf until late August. "She'll leave the Gulf and return to
Norfolk by late September, spending a little bit of time in the Mediterranean on the way
through, but only a little bit of time," said Bacon. Theodore Roosevelt will relieve
USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63), which is currently deployed to the region.
