CODECS is a private educational company, and one of the most important higher educational institutions in romania outside the universities. It was established in 1993 as part of a cooperation venture with the UK Open University, which was proven to be very successful.
From 80 students in 1994, the total has now grown to over 3,000. It delivers a wide range of programmes focused on management, marketing, finance, small business affairs and banking. The programmes are delivered almost exclusively for adults.
CODECS employs 40 full time and 80 part time staff, which almost all are directly involved in ODL.
CODECS offers mainly programmes and courses from the UK Open University. Co-operation started with the Open Business School, and now extends to the Social Sciences Faculty. CODECS are also offering a small business programme in collaboration with National Extension College,and are planning to extend the range of the OU courses further.
Recently, CODECS has begun to work with Bilston Community College UK on translation and adaptation of course materials for the Romanian market.
CODECS has been a partner in 2 Tempus Projects applications, and is currently partner in a Project financed by the Italian Government.
CODECS has links with all major Romanian Universities and palyed an important role in PHARE Programme for Multi Country Collaboration in Distance Education.
Links also exist with all CEE countries, and other institutions in the UK, Italy, France, Germany and Portugal.
