1. Structure and Organisation
The department is composed of some 21 people among which 17 are
Academic Staff (teaching) and 4 are Auxiliary (technicians). The
number of coordinated students is composed of:
- 120 students directly coordinated in the programme of BEng
in Applied Electronics
- 130 students partially coordinated in the other BEng programmes
of the faculty
- 1200 students partially coordinated in the BEng programmes
of other faculties (course units in Electronics and Measurements)
The main research interests of the department are the following:
- Industrial electronics
- Data acquisition systems
- Power systems measurement with microprocessor
- Electronic systems for the processes control and surveillance
in chemical plants and in other industrial branches
- Intelligent transducers for the technological parameters and
for their analysis
- Computer aided design programmes for the electronic blocks and
equipments
- Electronic circuit modelling
2. Specialist Facilities
a) The students may use the Faculty Library (about 20000 items
of books) as well as the Central University Library, and the Library
of Department. All other Faculty Libraries within the University
are accessible to all students. The access is free of charge.
The Academic Staff has at its disposal a Staff - Lecture Room
where most important publications (Scientific Journals - Periodicals)
are available.
b) In the structure of the Department the laboratory practice
of the students within the offered programmes is performed in
the following multi-functional (integrated) laboratories:
i) Electronic Devices and Circuits;
ii) Analog Electronic Circuits and Communications;
iii) Static Power Converters;
iv) Electrical Measurements;
v) Electronic Measurements, Sensors and Data Acquisition
vi)Digital Circuits and Microprocessors
vii)Television
The students in Applied Electronics have access also to the Laboratories
of the two other Departments (Automatic Control and Computer Science
& Engineering) as well as for the basic disciplines to the
Laboratories of other faculties (Physics, Electrical Engineering,
Electrical Machinery).
3. Main Teaching and Learning Methods Used in the Department:
a) Lectures
b) Class exercises and seminars
c) Laboratory work
d) Individual projects
e) Industry placement for practice (each year, in summer)
The assessment is performed as follows
- written examination
- written and oral examination (2 disciplines each year)
- oral examination
- continuous assessment (during class exercises and laboratory
works)
* Oral assessment at the end of industry placement stage based
on a project developed during the stage.
* Three written licence examinations after the completion of
the undergraduate studies.
* Oral defence of a thesis (Diploma project)
4. Local Grading Scale
The grading scale used throughout in Romania is the scale of marks
from 1 (minimal) to 10 (maximal). The student is considered as
minimally accomplishing the tasks of the assessed unit course
if the mark is 5. It is proposed that this mark should signify
the grant of the full credit attached to the unit course.
The are some disciplines where the assessment is purely qualitative,
without marks (ADMITTED or REJECTED).
Description and structure of the regular degree programmes offered
in the department is given below:
The students obtaining ADMISSION (marks higher than 5) for all
Curricula course units) - each year (level) are promoted to the
next level. After the 5th level (10th Semester) they have to pass
the 3 licence examinations (of the basic and speciality disciplines)
and elaborate and depend an individual thesis (project). For
these final assessments the minimal mark is 6 (of the 10 marks
scale). The student completing all these requirements is a awarded
the degree of diplomed engineer (BEng) in the corresponding programme.
The applicants for a Master programme (1 year) are selected by
a selection examination (two written examinations). The minimal
average mark is 8 (of the 10 marks scale). The postgraduate student
has to complete all the exams of the Curriculum with the minimal
mark 6 (of the 10 marks scale) and to depend a Master Thesis
(Dissertation). Accomplishing this the student is awarded the
degree of Master in the corresponding programme (MEng).
