This page gives you access to a growing list of aircraft VRML models. In order to view them you need a VRML extension for your browser. Go back to the Hangar Door to get it if you don't already have one.

THE MODELS

A-10

a10-a.wrl - ASCII, 97k
a10-a.zip - zip of a10-a.wrl above, 20k

  • This was originally a 3DS file I found in the UK-VR SIG archive. I added materials and lighting then converted it to vrml.

AH-64

ah64-a.wrl - ASCII, 110k
ah64-a.zip - zip of ah64-a.wrl above, 21k

  • This was originally a 3DS file I found in the UK-VR SIG archive. Also available from the Mesh Mart. I added materials and lighting then converted it to vrml.

ah64-wa.wrl - binary, 22k

  • This is the original vrml model found in the UK-VR SIG archive. The face normals are not quite what they should be - needs some work.

B-1

b1-a.wrl - ASCII, 264k
b1-a.zip - zip of b1-a.wrl above, 49k

  • This was originally a 3DS file I found in the UK-VR SIG archive. Also available from the Mesh Mart. I added materials and lighting then converted it to vrml. The belly needs some patching. Original source thought to be Avalon.

Bell Ranger

bellrg-a.wrl - ASCII, 579k
bellrg-a.zip - zip of b1-a.wrl above, 166k

  • This was originally a 3DS file I found in the UK-VR SIG archive. Also available from the Mesh Mart and a couple of other ftp sites. Converted to vrml. Original source of dataset thought to be Avalon (or is it an Autodesk demo?). Basic materials only.

[ back to top of page ]

Boeing 767

767-wa.wrl - binary, 27k

  • This is the original vrml model found in the Mesh Mart. Just basic materials. Original source Avalon

F-117

f117-wa.wrl - binary, 6k

  • A very simple F-117 vrml model. Try to swithch between flat and Gouraud lighting if you use live3d. Default material. Probable original source - Avalon.

F-14

f14-a.wrl - ASCII, 346k
f14-a.zip - zip of f14-a.wrl above, 63k

  • This was originally a 3DS file which you can find in various ftp archives under the name bigf14.3ds (the Mesh Mart and UK VR-SIG have it). I found a reference saying the original dataset comes from Avalon. Done some minor modifications, added the cockpit interior, materials and lighting then converted it to vrml. Yes, I know the missiles are not in the right places - I'll take care of that.

F-15

f15-a.wrl - ASCII, 482k
f15-a.zip - zip of f15-a.wrl above, 91k

  • The original data set came as a wireframe performance demo from SGI with an Indigo R4000 I once had (great little workstation - they don't make them like that any more). I used the vertex data and generated the polygons with a little piece of code. Obviously something went wrong around the top side of the air intakes - didn't yet have time to fix it. This one is not yet ready but I still include a link to it for the curious.

F-16

f16-a.wrl - ASCII, 201k
f16-a.zip - zip of f16-a.wrl above, 42k

  • This was originally an Inventor file - came with a SGI workstation as a demo. Brought it to the pc platform using a small filter, added materials and lighting then converted it to vrml.

f16-wa.wrl - binary, 92k

  • This is a vrml model found in the UK-VR SIG archive. Seems this model uses the same original dataset (anybody knows the source?) as the Inventor model I had.

F-18

f18-a.wrl - ASCII, 1107k
f18-a.zip - zip of f18-a.wrl above, 232k

  • This was originally a 3DS file (named fighter.3ds) that came as a 3D Studio demo - can also be found in a number of ftp archives (usually bearing the f18 name). Converted to vrml - needs some work to reduce size. Excellent model - although HUGE ! The probable source is Autodesk - but I'm not sure - found some references to it that say it's from Avalon.
