The introduction of highly manoeuvrable Western fighters such as the F-15 and F-16 put Eastern bloc fighter pilots at something of a disadvantage until a Soviet equivalent could be developed. The MiG-29 'Fulcrum ' is possibly the world's most manoeuvrable fighter, equipped with a powerful pulse-Doppler radar and modern air-to-air missiles, and is capable of Mach2 performance. The West's lead has been neutralized.
