Hate to say it to you tomcat lovers but the F-15 Eagle is by far a better airplane than the Tomcat. One just has to look at their respective combat records. While the F-15 has a 96.5 to zero combat record and that is not including the 4 Mig-29s that they recently shot down in Yugoslavia, the F-14 has a 5 and zero combat record. I don't know why you people believe that this is the best fighter in the world.

Great job on the website! I'm a huge F-14 fanatic, always dreamed of flying the All Mighty Tomcat, but I don't have perfect eyesight (that sux), but even if I did, what use would it be? It is getting phased out anyway...What were the big shots in the defense department smoking heh? Yeah, the Tomcat was built back in the 60's and 70's but what the hell? It can still kick the Hornet's a** anytime, and with a few avionics upgrades, new engines, fly by wire control, and strike capability developments, the Tomcat would be the ultimate 21st century fighter. No wonder when on strike missions the hornets need to be escorted by the Tomcats. But who am I to say all this, can't change a thing about it, it's all politics. It just pisses me off, maybe someday somehow the guys in washington will finally get some common sense into the corrupted minds of theirs and aprove the Tomcat21 program. (very unlikely, I know, but I'll keep hoping) It is sad to see a symbol of American power go out like that, and be replaced with a cheap hornet that can't fly off the carrier two miles without refuelling... Does anybody know anything about any advancements on the supertomcat21, or have any info on the aircraft, i'd be most gratefull if I could have them sent to me please. Sincerely, Pedro P. F-14 fanatic F-14 Tomcats forever baby! "No escort required!" <--(to all U F-18 fans out there!)

This is an awesome site you got going on here. I am in in the Navy here at Oceana. I am a plane captain, and maintain one of the aircraft that are listed at this site. It's buno # is 159618. It's current side # is A/C 110. I was suprised to find out that it's just two years younger than me. If you're interested in updating some of the blocks, then I can send you all of our current jets. Their side #s and bunos. Well, that's good enough for now. Take care, and take care of this site. Later, Michael

Hi, I was very impressed with this Tomcat site, being in VF-21 up until its decomissioning I take a particular interest in this aircraft. I've moved on to the F-18 but the F-14 is still my first love. I noticed on VF-21's page you had them based at NAS Yokosuka, the squadron was actually based at NAF Atsugi. All CAG-5 is based at Atsugi when they are not deployed to the ship. Again bravo zulu on your Tomcat site.

I have this excellent picture of a Naval Reserve F-14A landing at the Dallas NAS. It is a very kick ass photo. It was taken from the underside, about 60ft from the aircraft on approach. I was wondering if you could post it, because I don't think that specific Reserve Squadron is mentioned on your page. But this may not be necessary, because the squadron is going to convert to the F/A-18A Hornet in November of 98. So E-Mail me on what you want to do.

Dave, Loved your page - it takes me back a bit. I was fortunate enough to have lived the life of an aviation sailor for four years. I was assigned to VAW-113 (The Blackeagles) onboard the USS Coral Sea and later on the USS Constellation. I witnessed the end of the Phantom era - VF-21 and VF-154 operated the "Smokin' Thunder Hog" on the '83 cruise. Immediately following this deployment, both squadrons received the F-14A. Both squadrons intially had VERY colorful paint schemes: VF-21 in bright yellow and black; VF-154 in red and black. The Navy eventually ordered both squadrons to tone it down a bit when they started seriously implementing the "low-viz" grey on grey finishes. Not so pretty to look at as the original! Also, the Black Knights' have always used the knight/sword shield as their squadron crest - they even carried around a full suit of armor that was normally installed prominently in their ready room, both ashore and at sea. All for now. By the way, are you aware of any sites which list current/former squadron commanders? I'd love to try and look up some of my old shipmates, and so far have not had much luck. Tom Finley

I would just like to say that sometimes I wish I was an American, so that I could have the chance to fly something as wonderful as an F14. My ultimate dream is to fly a Stealth Bomber, but I guess that will probably have to stay a dream. So that I can fly, I am going to join the Royal Navy and fly either Commando Seakings or Sea Harriers (if I make the 'grades'). Any return mail to do with anything with wings would be appreciated. See you in the skies!

I am a simulator pilot at Fightertown in Pasadena Ca., and I will soom be the XO of VF-2 at this location. I have been flying F-18's (sims) for the past 3+ years at Fightertown in Lake Forest Ca. Anyone who would like some additional info can send me a request via e-mail and I will reply to it. These sims are the types you actually sit in not just a computer screen. They are very close to the actual flight models for the various A/C that we have in the data base. More is being added all the time. Hope to hear from you later.

What a magnificent site! Where did you find the time to do all this? Very well done. I was considering setting up a fan club, mainly for VF84 but each squadron will probably want one. Any tips you could give on research for useful info - especially a contact within the squadron itself (do they have a publicity officer?) would be more than welcome. Cheers! for creating the best site I've found.

As the president of the United States I made sure that the F-14 Tomcat was one of our top airplanes. Well, the real reason was to scare Saddam, I think it worked. Sorry I had to replace it but the cost was too great and I was running out of funds for my dates ( don't tell Hillory). Finally, I just wanted to congratulate you on a cool web site and I hope you keep it up.

Sun Dec 14 11:53:16 1997 , atcp@gte.net
You have a great site. The F-14 Tomcat is absolutely my favorite airplane. I don't know why the Navy wants to replace it with the less capable (at least in fleet air defence from what I gather) F-18E/F. I think the public should choose which planes they want in their military. After all, it's the public's money that's paying for the jets. The F-14 is the only thing i don't mind paying taxes for. Actually I don't pay taxes (except for what I buy at the store), my parents do. Actually, I don't even pay for what I get at the store, my parents give me the money.

Nice page, I was stationed with VF31 from 81-84 while they were at NAS Oceana. I don't remember the "Tomcat Alley" being so bright on VF101's Hanger. Keep up the good work. Felix would be proud.

Hi makers of the Tomcat Alley! Congratulation to your pages. I really like them! Must have been a lot of work to compile all these images and technical informations. The quality of the photos is very good. I found very quickly what I was looking for. Thank you for reading these lines. Kind regards Heiko

My Dad was XO of VF-32 July '47 to July '49. The old squadron designation was VF-4A prior to becoming VF-32. I have the old "Fighting 4-A" patch on his flight jacket. On the old patch, prior to the VF-32 designation, there's no sword in the lion's paw). I believe they flew F8F Bearcats then.

Great page, it is so nice to see cool webpage dedicated to our beloved Turkey-err, Tomcat. One thing I would like to see is more pics or detailed diagrams of the Bombcat with bombs loaded. Also, some pics of models would be nice. You being a Tomcat lover, you should try Microprose Fleet Defender. It is a pretty good simulation of the F-14, though kinda old. Good Guy

Just came back from the air show at NAS Oceana, Va. Beach. Saw tom cats and hornets flying for 3 straight days. It was great to see tomcats, b-2 bomber flyover, hornets, Blue Angels, A-10 warthogs displaying bombing runs with simulated ordinance explosions, Former ATN-2, repaired iff interogators on E-2A hawkeye aircraft, did a Med Cruise on USS Independence, 1967.

Add a Tomcat breaking the sound barrier to your images. Always a great shot.

The first time I saw F-14 is 21 years ago, when NK201(159625) came to Japan(JASDF Iruma Air Base) in Nov.1976. Since then, I've never seen Tom (21 years)until last Sunday. That was a great moment.

This is a great site. I really enjoyed browsing through it, I miss the F-14. It is very accurate and pretty comprehensive and consise. I was a weapons engineer on it at Grumman from Aug 4 1986 to Nov 11 1993. One of my first jobs was to support radios on a/c #7 Bu 157986, for first flight of the GE F110 engines. That was I believe Sept 29 1986. The essay on the F-14A+/B credits, I think, P2/PA2 or a/c 503 with this date. Also the AWG 15F was an update of the AWG 15E built by at the time Fairchild. It incorporated an LCD built in test screen, fixes inadvertent Jettisons, and the deletion of Bombing from the software (real foresight). Keep up the good work!
