I love the Airforce Today magazine i get two copys one for reading and one for cutting pictures out and putting them on my bedroom wall.I am in the Air Training Corps 8 Flight also at RAAF base Amberley. Every Saturday i look forward going to amberley and going to the training rooms to learn about aircraft. It is great for us to be able to go on base and learn and also get the feeling of RAAF life. If it is no trouble i would like any pictures sent to me of any aircraft from from Amberley to me would be most appreciated.

Your magazine was highly recommended to me by Warren Thompson, but have been unable to find a copy here in Austin. I have tried at least 3 Barnes and Nobles bookstores. Do you have any suggestions?

Hello! Finally found your page. I flew the EF-111 Raven at Cannon AFB, NM against Neville for Vol 1, Issue No 3. What a great flight, and a super time with a great photographer. The issue turned out great, and I was hoping to see some of the pics in the gallery. I just ordered another back issue for myself and friends! Keep up the pics, Neville! And come on back to see the USAF's newest trainer -- the T-6A Texan II at Randolph AFB, TX.

I love your magazine and i can't wait until it starts coming out 6 times a year. A query however is why the price was raised? I especialy like your reports on the Su-37 and the updates on the new kine of Mig-29's eg. the k, smt and m models. The story on the Su-33 was especialy good and is further reason to buy the next edition. Anyway, thanks for the read, yours sincerely, Mark Giddings PS: Include more stories on Sukhoi and Mikoyan.

INTRODUCTION TO THE AUGUSTA GROUP The Augusta Group is a loose association (no dues required) of military retiree veterans from Augusta, Georgia, encouraged and supported by others from across the nation. Our purpose is to educate and persuade our national leaders to honor the confirmed and unequivocal commitments made to military personnel who answered the call to serve our nation in time of all-out war and who assumed often unpopular responsibilities so that the cold war could be won. The Problem: Since prior to World War II military personnel were promised, in exchange for at least twenty years of honorable service at less than prevailing civilian wages, no-cost medical care for themselves and eligible dependents after retirement for the rest of their lives. For years, monthly military pay slips included a notation that future free medical care was to be considered as deferred compensation when comparing military pay with civilian wages. And, until recently, the United States government honored that commitment through medical care at Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs). Today, with the down-sizing of the military, medical care at MTFs is no longer available to military retirees. As a result, they are the only Federal employees who lose their employer provided health care when they reach the age of 65. Convention to Educate Congress by Mail (CECM) As a follow-on to the Convention to Educate Congress (CEC) event, held 22 September 1998, in Washington DC, which was organized by the Class Act Group Lawsuit (Ft. We hereby propose that on 31 December 1998 every retired military veteran, their family members and friends send a letter by regular mail to: their 2 Senators, their Congressperson, the Secretary of Defense, and as many of the major news organizations as possible. Sirs, After reviewing the article on the performance of an unmanned F-16 (Air Force Today, Vol. 2 No. 2, "AFTIF-16") I felt it should be noted that NASA @ Dryden flew an unmanned, high performance, fighter proto-type back in the 1978 to 1980 time frame. The vehicle was identified as HiMAT (Highly Maneuverable Aircraft Technology).

I buy an issue of your magazine as often as I can and I have found it to be the most informative and entertaining of all of the Military Aviation magizines I have read. I have recently started an Independent Research Report for school and the topic I have chosen is "Should Australia update it's Aircraft to meet the challenge of the update of our neighbours aircraft? and if so what with?". While I was reading Vol 2 No 4 of your magazine I came across the article "F-22 Raptor, Australian Hornet replacement", and Found it very useful as a secondary resource but I needed a bit more background on why and how. I saw the insert at the beginning of the article and have since back-ordered for the article containing "Carlo's" examination of the strategic threat to Australia etc. I am looking forward to receiving the article and I expect it to be very helpfull. Thank you Carlo and the rest of the team at Air Power International. Ben Foley

Career Military, Veterans, and ALL Women: If you are married (or ever intent to) be aware that your government is NOT telling you about the USFSPA (Uniform Services Former Spouses Protection Act). The USFSPA allows divorce courts to consider the military pension as income and/or property during divorce proceedings. The USFSPA is set up so that all a spouse need do is be married to a military member for ANY LENGTH OF TIME, then obtain or be divorced, and that spouse can then receive a portion of the military service individual’s pension (later upon their retirement). If, however; the marriage lasted for TEN years of congruent marriage AND their military service time, then DFAS (Defense Finance Accounting Service) will automatically garnishing their pension and send the you (the ex-spouse) a government check (each month) as part of your ‘pension’ for enduring a marriage to a military individual. The pension garnishment is for LIFE! It is applicable regardless of whether either party remarries or NOT! Statistics show that the military veteran is involved in the highest divorce rate in our country, almost 60% of retired veterans will be involved in divorce situations. Many women have had lost expectations and endured much hardship because of the military life style. They have lost career potential (because of military moves) and the inability to obtain a college education (because of requirements to support/attend their husband’s military functions and raise their children). Civilian spouses therefore often opt for the easy No-Fault divorce choice. The rate of garnishment calculation is based on the rank of the military member at the time of RETIREMENT not at the rank at the time of DIVORCE. One could be divorced at the ten year marriage mark, from an Officer Captain, and then upon his reaching retirement (ten plus years later), as say, a Colonel, the ex-spouse can bring that military individual (veteran), back into court and receive up to 50% of the retirees pension based on the retirement pay grade/rank of Colonel. This is a very good deal for anyone married to a military member and wanting out as it allows money potential to be earned during the time the divorce is complete until the military member is retired! Understand, that this ‘pension’ is in ADDITION to child support and alimony. Although many individuals are fighting this USFSPA law, it will not be changed. At present their are approximately 100,000 veterans that have abused/hurt their families (either physically or emotionally) and subverted and stymied their spouses into being just housewives. Our government has now seen to it to force those veteran ‘deadbeats’ to be responsible -- It is about time! Typically the military veteran is high risk for emotional instability (to include suicide) because of drinking, smoking, lost job potential, and the inability to adjust to civilian life style. Usually they do NOT adapt well and so the spouse (usually the female) must take action and dissolve the marriage. If you or anyone else know of an ‘unhappy’ marriage situation in which one of the parties was a military member, help out that spouse and inform her of the USFSPA. Remember children are most important! Check with the nearest military base JAG (Judge Advocate General’s) representative, your local family divorce lawyer (yellow pages), and/or do an Internet search under the term "USFSPA". Here are a few Internet web sites that will bring you more information. http://www.divorcenet.com//military/milboard1.html http://americanretirees.com/reading1.htm http://members.aol.com/carlkr/page1.htm http://www.divorcesource.com/search/semilitary.html http://www.dfas.mil/money/garnish/index.htm Jamie Lyle

Hi from NZ! After reading Vol 2 No 1 I have just ordered all four issues of Vol 1 plus 2 & 3 of Vol 2 - very impressed. I bought Vol 2 No 1 as it featured an article on RNZAF Skyhawks. Great to see you aren't forgetting your neighbours over the ditch! An impressive Website, excellent backround, good graphics, cool photos and great info. You could improve it probably by adding more pictures and a bit more pages. Keep up the good work. Regards Brynn Huxtable.
