- Diplomed engineer (BEng) in Computer Science and Engineering;
- Diplomed engineer (BEng) in Applied Electronics.

It offers also three postgraduate programmes:

- Master (MEng) in Nonconventional Automatic Control;
- Master (MEng) in Quality and Managerial Engineering;
- Master (MEng) in Distributed Computer Systems and it offers the Doctoral Degree in Engineering (Ph.D.) in :
- Automatic Control Systems;
- Computer Science and Engineering.

The faculty participates also in the undergraduate programmes of other faculties: Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering delivering course units in the fields of Control, Electronics and Computers. It is also included in a Master programme of the Faculty of Mathematics.

The teaching staff (some 60 people) of the Faculty is included in the three departments of the faculty:

- Department of Automatic Control (AC);
- Department of Electronics and Instrumentation (EI);
- Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CS).

The University of Craiova has 12 faculties. Some departments appear in more than one faculty. For our faculty the following departments of other faculties ensure the teaching activity:
- Electrical Engineering (EE) - Faculty of Electrical Engineering;
- Electrical Machines (EM) -Faculty of Electromechanical Engineering;
- Mechanical Engineering (ME) - Faculty of Mechanics;
- Mathematics (MA) - Faculty of Mathematics;
- Physics (PH) - Faculty of Science;
- Foreign Language (FL) - Faculty of Philology;
- Management and Marketing (MM) - Faculty of Social Science.

The Academic calendar is structured as follows. The Academic Year is splitted in 2 semesters of 14 weeks each. The Fall Semester starts on October 1. After 12 weeks the students and the staff are offered a X-mas holiday of 2 weeks. After holiday 2 weeks of classes follow and then there are 4 weeks of exams and various assessments. History and Development

In 1966 the Course (BEng) Programme on Automation started at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering with 50 students of the 1-st course. At the same time the corresponding Department was founded. Since 1978 the Course of Computer Science and Engineering exists too.

In 1990 the Faculty of Automation and Computers occured from the former Faculty of Electrical Engineering. It had (and still has) 3 Departments as specified previously. In 1991 a new Programme (Course) in Applied Electronics started. The teaching staff grew from 34 people in 1990 up to 60 people in 1996 as follows :
Professors 4
Assoc. Professors 7
Lecturers 35
Instructors 16
Ph.D - Scientific Advisers - 2

The average percentage for the disciplines is :

Basic Sciences 30- 35%;
Engineering Courses 50 - 60%;
Non-technical Sciences 10 - 15%.

The average overall number of hours in each Course is about 8500 hours of Faculty training, practice and individual graduation thesis (project).

The Faculty is involved in 3 TEMPUS programmes concerning improvement and modernising of Universities of France, Belgium, Holland, Italy, Greece,Germany,Ireland. Members of the Staff have been Visiting Professors in several European Universities.
