The F-14 community, like many others around the world, has yearly awards to celebrate excellance in different areas of
expertise. Here I will attempt to provide as comprehensive a listing as possible of who has won what, and when. As you can see at present I have very little information, so if you can add to, or provide corrections for, this list I'd be very grateful.
The main table shows recipients of the three main awards within the VF community. Firstly there is the Battle 'E', which is presented to the best squadron of the previous year. The 'E's were competed for amongst the different fleets, thus one would be presented to the best Pacific Fleet squadron, another to the best Atlantic Fleet squadron and a third to the best Reserve squadron. Today I am unsure whether there is a separate award for the Reserve, as they presently only have a single VF squadron.
The Safety 'S' is presented to the squadron with the best safety record for the previous twelve months and like the 'E' is awarded on a Fleet basis.
The most celebrated award is the Clifton Trophy, presented in honour of R.Adm Joseph C. Clifton. The winners of the Atlantic and Pacific Battle 'E's are the contenders for this trophy, with the winner being honoured as the best fighter squadron in the United States Navy.
