crashed 11.07.1994: In the course of a night landing aboard USS Kitty Hawk the F-14 struck the ramp and exploded. The resulting fireball rolled down the flight deck as the Tomcat broke apart. A drop tank spewed fuel as it slid into the catwalk, carrying the flames with it. The crew ejected. The RIO landed on the forward part of the ship and was only slightly injured, but the pilot descended into the burning fuel in the landing area and was successfully rescued.
