Whenever an aircraft is parked on the ground, it has to be grounded for safety reasons: Else electrostatic charging might occur and lead to the explosion of fuel in the fueltanks or might damage electrical systems.
Grounding is done by connecting metallic structure of the F-14 with a conductor on the ground with a resistance of less than 10,000 Ohms. The F-14 has a grounding point at the nose gear and is grounded by a grounding cable. The grounding point and the earth ground point must be free of paint and corrosion. If the nose gear grounding point is not accessable, the tie down ring of the nose gear might be used for grounding. For this the tie down ring must be free of paint and corrosion. Also note, that the tiedown chains can not be used to ground the aircraft. A separate grouding cable must be used.
